President Bola Tinubu has advised the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), against the delivery of divisive sermons that could jeopardize the unity of the nation.
The statement came during a meeting with CAN leaders, where Tinubu emphasized his commitment to fighting corruption and steering Nigeria toward prosperity.
In a dialogue with the delegation led by CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, Tinubu underscored the sacred duty of his administration to address corruption and other societal vices.
He urged faith leaders, particularly those in the Christian community, to play a pivotal role in fostering unity and peace.
“Public condemnation of a nation is not what makes any citizen a good one,” Tinubu stated emphatically.
“We must admonish Nigerians to have a change of mindset and not to make money our god or master.”
The President called for a collaborative effort, asserting, “If you do not preach the sermon of understanding, tolerance, perseverance, and hope for Nigerians, you are doing damage to the country, and nobody will help us repair it.”
Archbishop Okoh, in response, pledged CAN’s support for Tinubu’s administration in the pursuit of good governance, security, inclusivity, and peaceful co-existence.
“We believe that you have the sagacity to give leadership in battling our challenges and in turning around the fortunes of our nation, Nigeria, within a short time,” Okoh assured.
Acknowledging the criticisms his government has faced, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to fairness and urged CAN leaders to actively engage with the administration, pointing out any inadequacies.
“Nigeria needs to turn the corner to grow, and we must give people challenges they can manage,” Tinubu emphasized.
The President concluded by expressing gratitude for the prayers and support he has received, emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue in the nation’s progress.
The plea for unity resonated as a central theme, urging faith leaders to refrain from delivering divisive sermons that could potentially undermine the collective efforts to build a prosperous and united Nigeria.
