A Benin-based cleric, Evangelist Isaac Josiah, has triggered heated reactions after a viral video showed him distributing bras, wrappers, and pyjamas to female worshippers he accused of dressing indecently to church.
Josiah, the lead pastor of Reclaimers Ministry, was captured in a sermon on September 14, uploaded on the church’s official Facebook page, where he openly rebuked women who attended service without underwear or in revealing outfits.
In the footage, the preacher ordered ushers to hand out bras and wrappers to any woman he deemed improperly dressed, claiming that such appearances distracted men during worship.
“From today, any girl who enters this church and we see her nipple, we will give her a bra and say, ‘We have discovered you can’t afford one, so on behalf of the church, we give you this,’” Josiah declared.
He further instructed that women in mini-skirts or low-cut blouses should be given wrappers or white pyjamas, while breastfeeding mothers exposing cleavage should be covered immediately.
According to him, the move was necessary to instill discipline among congregants and preserve sanctity during services.
“If we can’t change you in this church, look for another church,” the evangelist warned. “I’m a young man, and I want to make heaven. Many brothers are distracted when they come to church. What they see are not angels but breasts and buttocks.”
Josiah also warned male members against sagging trousers and exposing their underwear, saying belts would also be provided for those who came inappropriately dressed.
The unusual sermon has sparked mixed reactions online, with some defending the cleric’s stance on modesty, while others criticized his methods as humiliating and extreme.
As of press time, the church had not issued any official response to the backlash trailing the viral video.
