DSS Busts Child Trafficking Syndicate, Arrests Two Suspects In Kano

The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismantled a child trafficking syndicate in Kano State, arresting a 17-year-old girl and her sponsor.

This operation also led to the rescue of a 4-year-old girl, Aisha, who was abducted from Nguru in Yobe State.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the  Kano office of the DSS reported that the young girl was handed over to them by the Kano State Hisbah Officials.

The Hisbah officials had become suspicious of the girl’s connection to the 4-year-old Aisha and subsequently handed her over to the DSS for further investigation.

The Hisbah officials had noted inconsistencies in the young girl’s story and suspected a foul play.

It was further gathered that the  DSS revealed that their investigation traced the operations of the child trafficking syndicate across neighboring states.

The 17-year-old girl, whose identity has been withheld, confessed that she was introduced to child abduction by a man who sold groundnuts near her home.

He promised her that nothing would happen to her if she assisted in the abduction of Aisha.

“We arrested the real kingpin in the abduction of children from around neighboring states to Kano, where they are sold in the southern part of the country, making it difficult to trace them,” a DSS spokesperson stated.

During the interrogation, the 17-year-old girl disclosed that the man behind the trafficking syndicate had convinced her to abduct Aisha.

“ She revealed that the man assured her that everything would be fine and that he had orchestrated similar abductions before.

“The kingpin, whose name remains undisclosed, confessed that the abduction of Aisha was his third criminal act in Nguru.

“Luck ran out on me after I used this lady to get Aisha for me and brought her to Kano, where I usually collect the abducted children and pay off the abductors while I move on with my partners,” he admitted.
