In a bid to save costs and prioritize development projects, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has announced a suspension of foreign trips for top government officials.

The Governor also said that virtual meetings would be preferred for international business and investment events, unless there is an emergency situation that requires his approval.

According to a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the Governor gave these directives at the State Executive Council meeting on Thursday, where he also outlined key policy guidelines for the governance of the state.

The meeting, which was attended by all members of the executive council, discussed the 2024 budget proposals from the Ministries, departments and agencies, as a prelude to the submission of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework to the State House of Assembly.

Governor Adeleke instructed that state expenditure should be focused on implementing critical projects across the sectors, such as roads, health, water, and housing.

He also called for personal sacrifices by top officials of the administration to meet public expectations.

“We must sustain the momentum of our service delivery by avoiding excessive spending on recurrent and overheads. Our needs from office to accommodation are much but our resources are limited. So we have to devise a coping mechanism pending the time our funding situation will improve”, he said.

The Governor also directed the Head of Service to prepare a memo to streamline the relationship between the Commissioners and Special Advisers, in order to avoid possible rivalry among top appointees.

He further announced that he would unveil the administration’s N100 billion Infrastructure Plan by Thursday, which covers various development projects in the state.

“I invite us all to note that this treasury board deliberations are critical to the achievement of our governance goals. We must take it with all seriousness”, the statement further reads.
