In a decisive move against the proliferation of narcotics, the Edo State Government has intensified its campaign against illegal drugs, arresting seven suspected dealers, including a breastfeeding mother, during coordinated raids across Uromi, Ubiaja, and Auchi in Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts.
The suspects—three men and four women—were paraded before journalists in Benin City by the Edo State Taskforce on Public Safety and Security.
Commissioner Festus Ebea, who led the briefing, stated that the arrests were the result of intelligence-driven operations targeting known drug hotspots.
“This operation, conducted on November 26, 2025, in Esan North-East, Esan South-East, and Etsako West, led to the arrest of seven individuals, including a breastfeeding mother,” Hon. Ebea said.
“Our youths are increasingly being lured into drug abuse, fueling deviant behaviour and criminal activities. All evidence recovered directly links these suspects to the illegal drug trade.”
The Commissioner stressed that the state government remains committed to dismantling drug networks, restoring public safety, and shielding young people from narcotics.
He added that the suspects would be profiled and handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution.
“This is not a one-off operation,” Hon. Ebea warned. “The Edo State Government will continue to pursue drug dealers relentlessly to ensure a peaceful and secure society. Narcotics destroy lives and communities, and we will take the fight to both sellers and consumers.”
CSP Michael Anetor, Chairman of the Edo State Taskforce, affirmed his team’s commitment to tackling drug-related crime and warned others involved in the illicit trade to desist before facing the full force of the law.
The Edo State Government assured residents that these operations would be sustained across all communities until the state is completely free from the scourge of illegal drugs.
