The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared a former Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Christopher Enweremadu, wanted over alleged diversion of public funds, stealing, and money laundering.
In a statement on Wednesday, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, urged members of the public to assist the Commission with credible information that could lead to Enweremadu’s arrest.
“The public is hereby notified that CHRISTOPHER ENWEREMADU, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing and money laundering,” the statement read.
Enweremadu, 58, hails from Abia State and was last known to reside at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Umuahia.
The former commissioner served under ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and is being investigated over allegations of misappropriation of local government funds between 2019 and 2023.
In December 2024, a Federal Capital Territory High Court ordered the seizure of Enweremadu’s international passport over the case, directing the EFCC to submit a certified true copy of its investigation into funds allocated to 17 local government areas of Abia State within the period.
The Commission maintained that the manhunt became necessary following his refusal to honour invitations after months of investigation.
