The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 10 officers from its Lagos Zonal Command over allegations of theft involving operational items.
The anti-corruption agency disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday, confirming that the officers were apprehended last week on the orders of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
The commission explained that the detained officers are under investigation for their inability to account for certain operational items under their custody.
It assured Nigerians that significant progress is being made in the probe and emphasized its commitment to internal accountability.
“In its continuing efforts to sweep the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission clean of corrupt tendencies, 10 officers of the Lagos Zonal Command are being detained over investigation of some missing items involving them,” the statement read.
The EFCC noted that the investigation is progressing effectively, with those found culpable to face internal disciplinary processes.
This development underscores the EFCC’s resolve to maintain integrity within its ranks while combating corruption across Nigeria.
Efforts to reach the agency for additional comments on the nature of the missing items and the disciplinary measures planned were unsuccessful as of press time.
The EFCC has faced scrutiny in the past for allegations of misconduct involving its staff.
