The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disclosed details of 18 out of 26 fresh corruption charges leveled against the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele, currently in EFCC custody alongside Henry Isioma Omoile, faced arraignment at the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, for the 26 counts brought against them by the EFCC.

The charges, spanning multi-million-dollar and naira corruption allegations, included various instances of forex allocation without due process, abuse of office, and corrupt financial transactions.

Notably, Emefiele was accused of allocating forex amounts totaling millions of dollars without proper bidding procedures, as well as receiving substantial sums from corporate entities as kickbacks.

Despite the weight of the charges, Emefiele maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all allegations brought forth by the EFCC.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the legal proceedings surrounding Emefiele are set to continue, with additional charges slated for a hearing in Abuja later in April.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has deferred ruling on Emefiele’s bail application, as the case unfolds amid heightened scrutiny and public attention.
