The Egba Agenda 2027, a coalition advocating for the emergence of an Egba indigene as governor in the next Ogun State gubernatorial election, has reiterated its commitment to fostering better governance and political reorientation.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Chairman of the group, High Chief Mustafa Hakeem Owolabi, emphasized that the movement is not targeted against any individual or group but solely focused on championing the interests of the Egba people.
“We stand firmly for the Egba people,” Owolabi stated, adding that the group’s 10-point agenda outlines its core objectives and strategies.
The chairman revealed that the group is committed to supporting any credible Egba candidate, irrespective of political affiliation, provided they align with the vision of the Egba Agenda.
He stressed the importance of political reorientation and voter education, noting, “For democracy to thrive, there must be a well-informed electorate.”
Highlighting the group’s inclusivity, Owolabi disclosed that the coalition comprises members from all three geopolitical zones of Ogun State—West, East, and Central—and boasts a membership strength of 10,000 people.
“We are a coalition that spans diverse backgrounds, united by our shared commitment to better governance in 2027,” he said.
Alhaji Adesina MacGregor, the State Coordinator of the Egba Agenda Forum, reaffirmed the group’s independence, stating, “We are not in competition or contention with anyone or any group.Our primary aim is to ensure that an Egba indigene emerges as governor in 2027.”
MacGregor described the movement as a coalition of diverse individuals dedicated to the emancipation of the Egba Kingdom from all forms of oppression and suppression.
Hon. Dapo Adeyemi, the State Leader of the Egba Agenda Forum, provided insights into the movement’s evolution, noting that it began nearly nine months ago and is now transitioning into a more focused phase.
He explained that the forum is a “rainbow coalition” that includes politicians, non-partisan individuals, artisans, and market women, all united in their mission to ensure Egba representation at the helm of Ogun State affairs.
While the group has yet to adopt a specific candidate, Adeyemi clarified that any qualified Egba indigene is eligible to join the forum, with the eventual candidate to be selected at the appropriate time.
“The momentum is growing, and we are determined to see it through,” he concluded.
The group said with over 200 leaders and representatives from various regions in attendance, the Egba Agenda 2027 continues to gain traction as it sets its sights on reshaping Ogun State’s political landscape.
