The 1971/1975 set of Egbado College, Ilaro, has marked its 50th anniversary with a powerful show of gratitude and philanthropy — donating a ₦30 million Toyota Coaster bus to their alma mater.
The donation, announced by the set chairman, Dr. Adetunji Ajibode, during the golden jubilee celebration, symbolised the group’s enduring bond with the institution that shaped their formative years.
Speaking at the colourful event, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, lauded the alumni for their generosity, describing education as the “strongest pillar for national development.”
He said, “Your decision to celebrate your 50th anniversary by giving back to your school demonstrates not just gratitude, but a commitment to inspire the next generation. Education thrives when former students remember their roots.”
Arigbabu also highlighted the Ogun State Government’s ongoing investments in the education sector under Governor Dapo Abiodun, including classroom construction, provision of laboratories, and continuous teacher training.
In his remarks, the National President of Egbado College Old Students’ Association (EGCOSA), Arc. Niyi Dasaolu, described the 1971/75 alumni as “promised keepers” whose gesture reflected true loyalty and community spirit.
He said, “You have not only honoured your promise but also set an example of what true alumni engagement should look like. This is how institutions grow stronger.”
The highlight of the event was a lecture titled “Confronting the Inevitable: Setting Matters in Order,” delivered by Mrs. Toyin Bashorun (SAN), a member of the set.
Bashorun, who spoke on estate planning, stressed the importance of preparing for life’s uncertainties. “Writing a will is not just about sharing property; it’s about protecting your loved ones and ensuring your legacy endures,” she said.
She further explained the processes and limitations of will-making, urging Nigerians to embrace proper estate management as part of responsible living.
As the event drew to a close, current students of the college were encouraged to emulate the spirit of service demonstrated by their predecessors.
Prof. Arigbabu urged them to “take pride in your school and strive to make meaningful contributions to society.”
