Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, has restated its commitment to education and sustainable community development as it marked the 10th edition of its annual scholarship awards.
The event, held at the Egbin Power Clubhouse in Lagos on Tuesday, drew community leaders, parents, teachers, students, and the company’s management to celebrate a decade of academic support for children in host communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour, described the initiative, which began in 2015, as a transformative programme that has not only relieved parents of financial burdens but also opened doors of opportunity for young scholars.
“This 10th edition of the Egbin Power Scholarship reaffirms our decade-long commitment to education and community development. By investing in these young scholars, we are empowering their future and strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth in our host communities and Nigeria at large,” Bounour said.
He added that the scholarship has gone beyond a corporate social responsibility (CSR) gesture to become a bond of trust between Egbin Power and its host communities.
“For ten years, the scholarship has stood as a pillar of our CSR drive. We are proud of its impact, and this milestone renews our pledge to keep driving initiatives that uplift lives and create lasting value for society,” he stated.
The Egbin Power Scholarship Programme, designed for outstanding pupils and students, provides financial support, mentorship, and a scholarship bootcamp focused on life skills, discipline, and self-confidence.
Beneficiaries and parents at the event testified to its life-changing impact. A parent, Mrs. Ebuzome Ekene, hailed the company for sustaining the initiative, noting that it has given many children the courage to aim higher.
“This scholarship has lifted a huge burden off many families. Beyond the financial relief, it gives our children the confidence to aim higher, knowing that their community and Egbin stand solidly behind them,” she said.
Similarly, a student beneficiary, Kareem Opeyemi, said the award had inspired him to work harder.
“This scholarship motivates me to study harder, focus on improving myself, and sustain the support so I can become a future leader who will make my community proud,” he said.
The 2025 bootcamp concluded with the selection of fresh beneficiaries for the 10th edition, reinforcing the company’s resolve to nurture the next generation of leaders.
Egbin Power has also invested in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and infrastructure across its host communities, underscoring its position as a socially responsible company.
