Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, has reiterated the need for strong collaboration among stakeholders in the energy sector to drive sustainable development and boost the nation’s socio-economic growth.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mokhtar Bounour, made this call during the Leadership Summit at the 2024 Nigeria Energy Conference, held in Lagos.
Themed “Gas to Power Generation: Market Dynamics and Energy Security,” the event gathered key industry leaders to examine the challenges and opportunities in Nigeria’s power sector.
Bounour, speaking at a panel session, stressed the importance of synergy across the energy value chain as essential to advancing the sector.
He noted that an interconnected approach among key players — from generation companies to transmission operators, distribution companies, regulators, and suppliers — is crucial to achieving a stable and reliable energy supply in the country.
“All stakeholders must work together to create an efficient system. From the GenCo, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Distribution Companies, regulators, and suppliers, we all share the common objective of ensuring customers receive a steady power supply,” Bounour stated.
He highlighted Egbin Power’s commitment to building solid relationships with regulators and partners in the energy value chain.
According to him, the company maintains transparent communication and collaboration to ensure that electricity reaches Nigerian homes and businesses without disruption.
“Gas is one of the most important factors in power generation in Nigeria, and we view our gas suppliers as key partners.
“Their sustainability is tied to ours, and addressing liquidity in the sector is equally vital,” Bounour explained, underscoring the critical role gas plays in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
Despite the myriad of challenges confronting the power sector, Bounour emphasized that opportunities for investment and growth remain abundant.
He affirmed that Egbin Power has forged strong partnerships with regulators and suppliers to meet its operational obligations and contribute to the sector’s overall development.
The panel discussion at the summit also featured insights from industry experts who agreed that increasing investment, deepening collaboration, and resolving critical challenges could further enhance Nigeria’s energy security.
As the nation’s leading power generation company, Egbin Power continues to invest in infrastructure, modernize its equipment, and employ predictive maintenance strategies to bolster efficiency and reliability.
The company remains committed to expanding its capacity while maintaining top-tier performance standards.
By prioritizing collaboration, investment, and innovation, Egbin Power is positioning itself as a key player in shaping Nigeria’s sustainable energy future.
These efforts are aligned with the government’s vision of a more prosperous and energy-secure nation.
In addition to its operational advancements, the company is working to enhance the efficiency of its existing power plants while reducing emissions.
Egbin Power is also actively involved in renewable energy initiatives and community development projects aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
