Egbin Power, Nigeria’s premier power generation company, has launched a state-of-the-art innovation centre.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the centre is designed to revolutionise education and equip students with the entrepreneurial, practical, and creative skills needed to excel in the modern world.
The “Bright Gyimah Centre for Innovation,” is located within the Powerfields Group of Schools in Ikorodu, Lagos.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the centre, named in honour of the late Bright Gyimah, a former General Manager at Egbin Power, offers an array of facilities to nurture students’ abilities in Information Technology (IT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), arts, music, culinary arts, and hospitality.
Felix Ofulue, Head of Corporate Communications & Branding at Egbin Power Plc, emphasised the transformative potential of the centre.
“The facility will open doors to exciting career opportunities for learners, serving as a beacon of hope for comprehensive, quality education. It has the potential to revolutionise education in our society,” he stated.
Ofulue reiterated the company’s commitment to nurturing future leaders who will drive Nigeria’s progress and prosperity.
Ejiro Gray, Director of Governance and Sustainability at Sahara Group, underscored the broader impact of the initiative.
“At Sahara Group, sustainability extends beyond organizational boundaries to include positive societal impact. We aim to position students to compete globally, providing them with the right platform to learn and apply their skills,” she said.
Gray highlighted that the centre offers in-demand 21st-century skills, empowering students to cultivate their entrepreneurial spirit and become innovators.
Ngozi Emezue, Administrator of Powerfields Group of Schools, noted that the centre represents a significant leap forward in education.
“This Centre represents a significant investment in the future, playing a key role in nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators. It will also enhance the continuous professional development of the teachers, giving us a competitive advantage,” she said.
Matthew Amadi, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), praised the innovation hub for elevating the educational standards at Powerfields School.
“The establishment of this Centre for Innovation further positions Powerfields School as an exemplary learning institution where students receive quality education, practical skills, and expand their horizons beyond the textbook, making them outstandingly creative and competitive globally,” he remarked.
The centre boasts of an Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, a Cooking Lab, a Hospitality Room, a Music Lab, an IT Lab, an Art Studio, and an Auditorium, all designed to provide hands-on, experiential learning.
Caroline Uzoigwe, daughter of Bright Gyimah, lauded Egbin Power for this visionary initiative. “Education has gone beyond just the classrooms and textbooks.
It involves being able to practicalize and implement knowledge. That is why this Centre for Innovation is significant. It shows commitment to the growth and development of the school, the students, and the education sector,” she said.
