Egbin Power Plc has revitalized its Learning Academy to enhance human capital development, equipping its workforce with the technical, operational, and leadership skills needed to drive efficiency and innovation in Nigeria’s power sector.

The company, a key player in Nigeria’s electricity generation industry, said the academy serves as a strategic capacity-building hub designed to bridge competency gaps and empower employees with expertise crucial for professional growth and improved service delivery.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Learning Academy’s 2025 academic session, the Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power, Mokhtar Bounour, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to upskilling its employees to meet industry challenges.

“At Egbin Power, our people are our greatest assets. Hence, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous learning and development, ensuring that our employees are well-equipped to meet the challenges of the industry.

This strategic initiative directly aligns with our long-term goals of fostering innovation and ensuring sustainable growth,” Bounour stated.

The Learning Academy, located within the Egbin Power Plant in Ikorodu, Lagos State, also serves as a talent pipeline, equipping trainees with specialized expertise to enhance operational efficiency and ensure long-term business sustainability.

The company’s Head of Human Resources, Gabriel Nkanga, emphasized that the academy was structured to bridge competency and proficiency gaps through targeted training programs tailored to industry standards.

Similarly, the Head of Maintenance, Felix Ebiware, highlighted the importance of continuous training, noting that it fosters commitment, drives innovation, and enhances employees’ cross-functional skills.

“By equipping our teams with advanced skills and continuous training, the Academy will deliver a positive and significant impact on operation and maintenance practices, which in turn will ensure the reliability, efficiency, and availability of the Plant,” Ebiware stated.

The academy’s curriculum is structured into two core schools—the Technical School and the Leadership Development School. The Technical School covers electrical, mechanical, instrumentation & control, chemicals & oil, and facility management.

The Leadership Development School, on the other hand, focuses on digital innovation, poise, and leadership development.

Participants in the academy benefit from in-depth training facilitated by in-house subject-matter experts, as well as hands-on practical sessions, case studies, coaching, and mentoring programs designed to enhance proficiency and career progression.

Egbin Power reaffirmed its commitment to investing in employee development as part of efforts to set the benchmark for excellence in Nigeria’s power generation industry.
