Egbin Power Plc has launched a technology-driven empowerment programme aimed at equipping young people from its host communities of Egbin, Ijede and Ipakan with critical digital skills to boost employability, entrepreneurship and access to opportunities in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
The initiative, which forms part of the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) framework, brings together beneficiaries from the three communities for intensive training in ICT fundamentals, graphic design, full-stack web development, digital marketing, cybersecurity and data analytics, combining classroom instruction with hands-on learning.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer, Mokhtar Bounour, said the programme reflected Egbin Power’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, stressing that the company’s responsibility extended beyond electricity generation to empowering people in its host communities.
“In today’s digital age, technology is no longer optional but a critical driver of economic inclusion and growth,” Bounour said, adding that deliberate interventions were required to bridge digital gaps and prevent uneven development.
According to him, exclusion from the digital economy deepens inequality and undermines long-term growth, hence the need to provide young people with practical, in-demand skills that can translate into jobs, business opportunities and community development.
Participants in the first cohort were selected through a screening process that assessed curiosity, determination and willingness to learn.
In addition to technical training, the programme also covers workplace competencies such as ethics, professionalism, problem-solving, collaboration and digital responsibility.
Bounour urged beneficiaries to act as ambassadors of the initiative, saying their progress would demonstrate that strategic corporate responsibility could deliver measurable and lasting impact.
He also challenged participants to use their new skills to solve real problems in their communities, mentor others and promote shared growth, noting that the true legacy of the programme would be the ripple effects it creates beyond individual success.
Egbin Power said the launch of the Tech Empowerment Programme reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable community development, trust-building and long-term value creation, adding that it would continue to invest in people and host communities while contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s digital and economic future.
