A political activist and community leader in Ogun State, Hon. (Chief) Olalekan Teslim Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba, has urged residents of Abeokuta South Local Government and Egbaland at large to embrace the true spirit of Eid-el-Adha by rejecting vote-buying and prioritizing long-term development over temporary benefits.

In a statement issued  a r personally signed by Shoyinka in Abeokuta on Thursday, to mark the Eid-el-Adha celebrations, the broadcaster  charged the people to emulate the sacrifice and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim, which the festival commemorates.

“This holy season reminds us of the deep meaning behind Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience and sacrifice—his willingness to submit to Almighty Allah’s command without hesitation,” Shoyinka stated.

He warned against the trend of political inducement during election periods, describing it as a betrayal of future generations.

“Let us not allow the momentary satisfaction of the belly during election periods to blind us to the greater and lasting dividends of democracy. Let us not trade the future of our children and our land for bags of rice or empty promises,” he said.

Shoyinka, is the  Gbedegesin in the Ijemo area of Abeokuta, called for wise decision-making among voters, stressing that leadership should be chosen based on integrity, vision, and commitment to the collective good.

“Just as Prophet Ibrahim chose obedience over convenience, we too must choose wisely—supporting leadership that prioritizes the welfare of all, the development of Egbaland, and a future filled with opportunity and dignity,” he added.

The community leader prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity in Egbaland and Nigeria, while urging the people to remain united, disciplined, and focused on doing what is right, even when difficult.

“I celebrate with you all and pray that Almighty Allah accept your sacrifices, bless your homes, and grant peace, progress, and plenty to Egbaland and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
