El-Rufai Challenges Corruption Allegations, Vows To Swear On Quran

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has vehemently denied allegations of financial misappropriation during his tenure, declaring his readiness to swear on the Quran to prove his innocence.

Speaking during a Hausa programme on Freedom Radio in Kaduna, El-Rufai asserted that his entry into politics was driven by a sincere commitment to public service rather than personal gain.

“I did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor,” El-Rufai stated emphatically, addressing accusations of embezzling public funds.

“I have always prayed for guidance in all I do, and I strive not to betray the trust of the people.”

In response to the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s recent report alleging misappropriation of N423 billion during his administration’s eight-year tenure, El-Rufai remained resolute.

He hinted at legal actions against those tarnishing his reputation but affirmed his focus on personal pursuits, including reading and writing.

“When the former governors of Kaduna State and other leaders are ready to swear with the Quran that they never misappropriated public funds, I will join them,” El-Rufai challenged, expressing confidence in his integrity.

“I have no fear because I know I never took money that belonged to the people. I have left everything to God’s judgment.”

El-Rufai also hinted at a return to active politics, revealing plans to re-engage in political activities in 2027 after completing ongoing personal endeavours.

He emphasized that for him, there is no retirement from political engagement.

The allegations against El-Rufai’s administration have sparked political controversy, with some members of his cabinet dismissing the House of Assembly’s findings as politically motivated.
