El-Rufai, Obasanjo  In Closed-Door Meeting In  Abeokuta

In an unexpected rendezvous, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna state, paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday at the penthouse of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta.

El-Rufai, accompanied by a group of friends, confirmed the meeting through a post on his verified X account.

The purpose of El-Rufai’s visit remained undisclosed, sparking speculation among political circles and the public.

The former governor chose to keep mum on the specifics of the meeting, leaving room for intrigue and conjecture.

This visit follows closely on the heels of El-Rufai’s recent installation as the Gbobaniyi of Ijebuland by the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.

The timing of the meeting adds an additional layer of curiosity, prompting questions about the potential implications of this gathering.

El-Rufai, who previously served as the director-general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and later as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during Obasanjo’s eight-year administration, has maintained a professional relationship with the former president.

In September, El-Rufai lauded Obasanjo as the “most successful” leader in terms of economic growth, job creation, and inflation rate during a session at the Africa In the World conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

During the conference, El-Rufai reflected on Nigeria’s economic trajectory, attributing success to the period of the second term of President Obasanjo from 2003 to 2007.

He highlighted the achievements of this era, emphasizing the country’s return to proper integrated planning and fortunate circumstances.

The lack of clarity regarding the purpose of El-Rufai’s recent visit to Obasanjo’s residence leaves room for speculation on whether it was a routine social call, a discussion on political matters, or an exchange of ideas on matters of national significance.
