Elder Statesman Clark Accuses Buhari Of Setting Nigeria Back Five Decades

Elder Statesman and Pan-Niger Delta Forum Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has lambasted the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, asserting that it propelled Nigeria five decades backward during his eight-year tenure.

Clark criticised the Buhari administration for its perceived lack of direction, abysmal failure, heightened insecurity, and economic collapse.

His remarks were prompted by the launch of a book titled “Working with Buhari: Reflections of A Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023)” authored by Buhari’s former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Expressing disapproval of Buhari’s self-praise during the book launch, Clark emphasised that the majority of Nigerians held a contrary view of the former President’s achievements.

He stated, “Muhammadu Buhari failed abysmally as President, plunging Nigeria and its citizens five decades backward.”

Clark drew attention to a 12-page statement he penned on the eve of Buhari’s exit from office in May 2023, highlighting the legacy of “unfulfilled promises, a divided nation, and critical federal infrastructural projects in shameful states.”

He further accused Buhari’s eight-year tenure of being unjust, biased, nepotistic, and labeled it a “period of complete and total retrogression.”
