In a chilling case that has left residents of Utoro, Kano State, in shock, police operatives from the Bompai Police Station have arrested an elderly man, Malam Yahaya, for allegedly hypnotizing a victim in a plot to steal a baby and gouge out its eyes for ritual purposes.
The suspect, Yahaya, was apprehended after a 25-year-old man, Kabir Sani, who claimed to have been hypnotized by him, was caught attempting to carry out the disturbing directive.
Sani later led the police to Yahaya’s residence, where a search revealed items believed to be used for rituals, including a calabash with inscriptions, red and white clothing, and various charms.
According to Sani, his ordeal began when he visited Yahaya seeking treatment for an ailment. “He gave me some medicine and water and instructed me to use my urine for three days.
When I returned, he gave me a perfume and other substances that immediately clouded my judgment. I lost control of my actions,” Sani recounted.
The victim further alleged that Yahaya promised him one million naira to find a baby whose eyes would be removed to create a charm for a soldier.
Sani disclosed that he informed his sister about the bizarre directive and attempted to abduct an eight-month-old child from their household but failed.
“I plead with the public to help me regain my senses. Malam Yahaya has manipulated me,” he said.
The Kano State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
