In a chilling case of domestic violence, a 71-year-old man, Jeriel Clifford Peter, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 67-year-old wife, Miltha Jeriel, following a heated argument at a local beer parlour.
The incident reportedly occurred on November 6, 2025, in Demsa Local Government Area, where witnesses said the dispute between the couple escalated into violence.
According to eyewitnesses, the husband attacked his wife with a knife and an axe, stabbing her multiple times in what they described as a drunken rage.
Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Demsa, arrived promptly after a distress call.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Her remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The suspect has been taken into custody, and the murder weapons recovered, confirmed the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
Condemning the act, Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, described the killing as “unfortunate and barbaric” and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution.
The CP also warned residents against domestic violence, urging couples to resolve disputes peacefully and seek intervention before conflicts escalate.
“The Command will ensure justice is served and that no offender escapes lawful punishment,” he assured.
The tragic incident has reignited concerns over domestic violence and the need for timely intervention in family disputes, particularly among the elderly population.
