Africa’s journey towards becoming an economic and cultural powerhouse will take center stage on Sunday, January 12, 2025, as globally acclaimed historian and academic, Prof. Toyin Falola, headlines the 27th edition of the Boiling Point Arena.
The event, themed “The Socio-Economic and Political Survival of Mother Africa: The Dilemma and Viable Options”, promises to explore critical pathways for leveraging Africa’s vast natural resources and demographic advantages.
Prof. Falola, renowned as Africa’s most distinguished historian and a celebrated humanities scholar, will lead the discourse, which is expected to attract a wide array of thought leaders and policymakers.
The session will hold via Zoom and will be broadcast live on WASH 94.9FM, Lagos, and Sweet 107.1FM, Abeokuta, ensuring a broad audience reach both online and on terrestrial platforms.
The programme, hosted by Dr. Ayo Arowojolu, a seasoned media professional with over three decades of experience, has gained a reputation for fostering intellectual discussions.
Past editions featured high-profile speakers, including the December 2024 session with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he reflected on his governance legacies and assessed Nigeria’s current state.

Prof. Falola, who has authored over 100 books and lectured in more than 65 countries, brings unmatched expertise to the platform.
A recipient of 25 honorary doctorates from institutions like the University of Ibadan, University of Calgary, and Monmouth University, his recent appointment as Extraordinary Professor of Humanities at the University of the Free State, South Africa, underscores his global academic influence.
His participation aligns with the platform’s mission of providing actionable insights for Africa’s socio-economic and political advancement.
The discourse will be preceded by a keynote address delivered by Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom and Chairman of the Boiling Point Council of Royals and Elders. His perspective as a traditional ruler and academic will set the tone for an engaging session.
The programme’s organizing committee, led by Dr. Eddy Ademosu, lauded the partnership with Sweet FM and WASH 94.9FM for amplifying the platform’s reach.
