Residents of Eche Ezema community in Ibagwa-Aka, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of four siblings allegedly by a pastor of a local sabbath church.
The victims — Kamsiyochukwu Ezema (7), Ezinne Ezema (6), Ujunwa Ezema (5), and Chinedu Ezema (2) — were reportedly killed with a pestle while alone at home. The suspect, identified only as a pastor, is currently in police custody at the Ibagwa-Aka Divisional Police Station.
Confirming the heartbreaking incident to The Punch, a family source said the pastor allegedly scaled the fence separating his church from the Ezema family’s compound before carrying out the attack.
“The suspect used a pestle to kill them. The children were alone at home when it happened,” the source said.
The parents of the deceased, Mr. Chinonso Ezema and his wife, Loveth, who were away at the time of the incident, expressed deep grief and called for a thorough investigation and justice.
“Our compound shares a fence with the church. We want the police to do everything possible to bring the culprit to justice,” the bereaved father said.
A police officer who confirmed the development but requested anonymity told The Punch that the case has been officially documented and investigations are underway.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and allow the police to carry out a full investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragedy,” the officer stated.
The motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear as of press time. The community has been left in shock, with many struggling to come to terms with the brutal loss of the four young children.
