The Enugu State Police Command on Thursday announced a major breakthrough in its fight against crime, with the arrest of 5,176 suspected criminals and the recovery of N10 million cash, 21 exotic vehicles, and dangerous weapons.
Commissioner of Police, Mamam Giwa, disclosed this during a press conference at the Command Headquarters in Enugu, noting that the feat was achieved between March 11 and September 11, 2025, through intelligence-led operations, tactical surveillance, and raids on criminal hideouts.
According to him, the suspects include kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, and murderers who had terrorised residents across the state.
“We have remained relentless in our pursuit of criminals to ensure that Enugu State remains safe for residents, investors, and visitors,” Giwa said.
The police boss added that 113 kidnapped victims were rescued within the same period, with many of them reunited with their families.
He listed items recovered from the suspects to include assorted firearms, live ammunition, the stolen cash, and the exotic cars.
Giwa urged residents whose vehicles were stolen recently to visit the Command Headquarters with valid proof of ownership for possible identification and recovery.
While commending sister security agencies, community vigilante groups, and residents for their support, the CP warned criminal elements to either repent or face the full weight of the law.
“The commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and property is unwavering,” he stressed, assuring that patrols and intelligence gathering would be further intensified.
He also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police formation, promising that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
