Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has insisted that the club’s board has never told him anything about finishing in the top four this season.
Maresca spoke ahead of his side’s EFL Cup tie with Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Chelsea currently sit in the fifth position on the Premier League table following their 2-1 win over Newcastle United over the weekend.
“The club has never mentioned anything about top four,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference.
“They always said the target and idea is to build something important for four or five years. We work every day to reach something important. We try to do our best,” the Italian added.
