Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea attacker, Raheem Sterling after the England international released a statement through his representatives just ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester City.
Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca did not include the former Liverpool and Manchester City star in his XI for the Premier League opener against the defending champions.
The west London Blues suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side, with goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic.
A statement from Sterling’s camp said the player is under contract with Chelsea for three years.
It said the player is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level to Chelsea and the fans….”
But Carragher slammed the England attacker, insisting that the statement was unnecessary.
Carragher lambasted Sterling for his statement.
Writing on X, he said: “Massive fan of Raheem as a player & a lad. Not a fan of the Chelsea set up with owners etc…
“But this statement is ridiculous! As a camp………..! We look forward to gaining clarity…….!! No need for a statement, especially an hour before kick off!! Just play better.”
Sterling is just one of the many wingers Chelsea have at their disposal. The Blues have the likes of Pedro Neto, Mykhaylo Mudryk, and Noni Madueke in their ranks.
Hence, Sterling’s spot in the first team isn’t guaranteed.
