The immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress governorship primaries in Bayelsa State.
Silva defeated the governor-elect of the party in 2019 who was later sacked by court over discrepancy in his running mate’s credencials, David Lyon and four others .
The Chairman of the election committee, Maj. Gen. A T. Jibrin (Retd), on Saturday anounced the result of the primaries, which was held on Friday, at the APC secretariat in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
According to Jibrin Sylva polled 52,061 votes to defeat Lyon who polled 1,584 votes .
Jibrin added that Joshua Machiver got 2,078 votes, Festus Danumiebi garnered 557 votes, Prof. Maureen Etebu scored 1,277 votes, while Isikima Johnson scored 584 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Sylva solicited the support of other contestants in order to secure victory for the APC in the governorship election slated for November 11, 2023.
The former minister, who was represented by a member of the House of Representatives, Sunny Goli, said: “Lets us work together as a family to win the Bayelsa governorship election on November 11, 2023.
