The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old ex-convict, Sunday Dosunmu, for attempting to steal cars in the Leme area of Abeokuta using fabricated master keys.

Dosunmu, a prison returnee, was apprehended on Saturday by vigilant youths in the vicinity.

According to SP Omolola Odutola, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the suspect’s audacious attempt at car theft using fabricated master keys was foiled by alert citizens.

The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on August 12, 2023, prompting a swift response from both community members and the police.

Sunday Dosunmu’s criminal history dates back to September 17, 2022, when he was caught in the act by CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta division.

At that time, Dosunmu was attempting to steal a car along with his criminal syndicate. Despite his previous arrest and time spent in prison, Dosunmu seemingly resumed his illicit activities shortly after his release.

Odutola disclosed, “Yesterday, August 12, 2023, at about 7:30 pm along Leme, Ogun State, Sunday, in his habitual act, was caught again by youths of that area while using fabricated master keys to unlock some cars.”

The alert youths pursued Dosunmu as he attempted to flee, ultimately apprehending him and alerting the police.

Upon his arrest, the police discovered two fabricated iron master keys in Dosunmu’s possession.

These tools were likely used to unlock unsuspecting car owners’ vehicles. Despite his age, the police intend to pursue legal action against Dosunmu to ensure that justice is served.

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has directed that comprehensive evidence be presented in court to ensure that the suspect faces appropriate consequences for his actions.

The incident underscores the determination of both community members and law enforcement to curb criminal activity and hold offenders accountable.

As Dosunmu faces the legal repercussions of his actions, this case serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and preserve the rule of law in the region
