In a significant development, the federal government has allocated an impressive sum of over one trillion naira for projects executed across the six states of the South West region between May 29, 2019, and November 30, 2023, as reported by PLATFORM TIMES.
According to financial records accessed on the govsspend portal (www.govspend.ng) by PLATFORM TIMES, a total of N1,040,672,981,798.68 was distributed among Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, and Lagos states. This substantial funding has been predominantly directed towards various sectors, including health, education, infrastructure, and capacity building, with nearly 15,000 projects executed during this period.
Lagos State emerged as the frontrunner, receiving a substantial share of N631,830,711,343.64, while Oyo followed suit with N182,765,360.66. Ekiti received N112,622,436,864.69, and Ondo secured N103,530,326,965.00 in project funds. Both Ogun and Osun received slightly less than N100 billion, with N97 billion and N95 billion respectively.
PLATFORM TIMES’ investigation revealed that the federal government’s financial injection covered a diverse range of projects in Lagos. Close to 3,000 projects were executed, spanning education, health, works, and capacity building. Notable projects included the provision of educational materials, documentation and social media dissemination for the restoration of the 3rd mainland bridge, and rehabilitation of infrastructure in Ijora, Lagos.
In Ondo, contractors received a substantial sum of N103,530,326,965.00 for executing various projects across different sectors. Over 2,000 projects were executed during this period, including the provision and installation of solar street lights for rural communities and the establishment of a skill acquisition centre in Ode-Aye.
Osun State received a considerable sum of N95,506,741,261.69 for projects spanning health, works, and education. Notable projects included the rehabilitation of hydro metrological stations and the purchase of furniture for the Federal College of Education, Iwo.
Oyo State benefited from federal government projects worth N182,765,360.60, covering initiatives such as the production and supply of 2,000 NYSC Khaki suits and the completion and furnishing of a Primary Health Centre in Atigbo.
Ekiti State witnessed a significant boost with N112,622,436,864.69 invested in diverse sectors, including health, works, and education. Projects included emergency road repairs and the rehabilitation of Efon-Alaye-Erinmo-Iwara Road.
Ogun State, receiving N97 billion, directed substantial funds to the State Universal Basic Education Board. Various projects, including classroom construction and school hall renovations, contributed to the state’s development.
