Experts and policymakers from across Nigeria’s public and private sectors will on Tuesday converge in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to examine how engineering and urban planning can be deployed to strengthen national security.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the discourse will take place at the 12th Waheed Kadiri Lecture Series organised by the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), with the theme, “Designing Safer Nigeria: Engineering, Planning and the Fight Against Insecurity.”
PLATFORM TIMES further reports that the event is scheduled for 11am at the Ogun Pensioners Hall, opposite Waheed Kadiri House, along Moshood Abiola Way, Ijeun Lukosi, Abeokuta.
The Vice-Chancellor of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, will serve as guest lecturer, bringing decades of academic and professional experience to bear on the subject.
Chairman of the organising committee, Tpl. Oladunjoye Arowosegbe, said the topic was carefully chosen in response to the growing security challenges confronting the nation.
He noted that effective planning remained central to building harmonious and sustainable communities where residents could live and thrive safely, stressing that insecurity had continued to undermine social stability and development across the country.
“The lecture is part of NITP’s contribution to national development by promoting solutions-oriented dialogue on how the built environment can support safety, resilience and social cohesion,” Arowosegbe said.
The Waheed Kadiri Lecture Series honours the achievements of one of Africa’s foremost town planners, Waheed Kadiri, Principal Partner at Kadiri Associates Limited and former president of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria.
He also served as Chairman of the African Planning Association and was a two-term Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
Held annually to coincide with his birthday, the lecture attracts professionals, policymakers and stakeholders from across the country, providing a platform for high-level discourse on planning practice, professional excellence and community development.
