In a scathing open letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Service (DSS), a timely and urgent call has been made to monitor the activities of NLC President, Com Joe Ajaero, and former governor Mr. Peter Obi.
The letter accuses them of orchestrating plans to incite violent collective action against the Nigerian state through an upcoming proposed general strike action.
The letter, penned by the Labour Party, brings to light the alleged activities of Mr. Joe Ajaero, who is accused of working under the guise of championing workers’ welfare but is claimed to be leading a clandestine rebellion movement against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The main focus of concern centers around a meeting scheduled for November 1, 2023, at the NLC National Secretariat and the OBI/DATTI National Campaign Council Secretariat.
This gathering includes Mr. Peter Obi, Julius Abure, several senior critics, lawyers, and junior counterparts who have openly criticized the outcome of the Supreme Court judgment, casting aspersions on the integrity of the National Assembly and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The Labour Party underscores the gravity of the situation, citing Section 37 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria, which deems any act of levying war against the state as treason, punishable by death.
It accuses Joe Ajaero and Peter Obi of planning actions that could be seen as an attempt to intimidate the President and challenge the federal government’s authority.
The alleged plot involves recruiting political militants and other sympathizers to engage in civil disobedience, acts of terrorism, sponsored political violence, worker protests, and demonstrations during an indefinite strike.
The intention appears to be to paralyze the activities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government and mobilize workers against the state.
The letter emphasizes that Joe Ajaero’s history includes the formation of the illegal United Labour Congress, which further demonstrates his willingness to disrupt the status quo for his agenda.
It also points out his control over prominent members of powerful oil unions, posing a significant threat to the nation’s stability.
The alleged destabilization plot aims to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, targeting key sectors such as the petroleum industry, power sector, finance, aviation, manufacturing, and telecommunications.
The Labour Party disassociates itself from these undemocratic actions and calls on the Inspector General of Police and security agencies to take swift action to protect the nation’s democratic gains.
The letter warns of the potential consequences of allowing these actions to continue, which could lead to political instability, violent protests, and inciting violence in the country.
It urges the police and security agencies to closely monitor vehicular movements from the Southeastern part of Nigeria, specifically Imo, Anambra, and Abia States.
The Labour Party, under the leadership of Alh Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, calls on citizens to resist any form of illegal protests, violence, or political vendettas orchestrated by those who lost elections.
The LP encourages opposition parties to remain patriotic and work towards electoral victory through lawful means.
In conclusion, the open letter warns that the IGP and the DG DSS should arrest and prosecute anyone who violates Section 37 of the Criminal Code Act, emphasizing the need to protect the nation’s interests and act in patriotism.
The situation is deemed highly critical, and the call for monitoring and action is urgent.
