Factional PDP In Ogun Expresses Confidence In Judiciary

A faction of the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its confidence in the judiciary amid ongoing legal disputes surrounding the party’s internal affairs.

This assurance comes in response to recent statement by Abayomi Tella led PDP, which allegedly cast doubt on the integrity of the judicial process.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, Austin Oniyokor, clarified that the remarks were neither sanctioned nor supported by the party’s leadership.

Former Chairman of the party, Sikirulahi Ogundele and others emerged from a parallel PDP congress held in Abeokuta.

The statement quoted Ogundele, as describing the claims against the judiciary as “distasteful and ill-advised”.

“The attention of the Dr. (Hon.) Sikirulai Ogundele-led Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a most distasteful and ill-advised statement credited to the head of a group within the Ogun State PDP against the Ogun State judiciary,” the statement read.

“We hereby dissociate the PDP from the unfounded allegations and declare that the said statement does not represent the views and opinions of the Ogun State PDP.”

Dr. Ogundele described it as “the last hope of the common man” and condemning any attempt to undermine its role.

He reiterated that the PDP is committed to following due process and upholding the law, especially in matters relating to internal party guidelines and Congress procedures currently before the court.

The statement further conveyed the Ogun PDP’s commitment to distancing itself from any divisive comments that question judicial fairness, warning the individuals involved against discrediting the judiciary for personal motives.

Dr. Ogundele criticized the factional leader, questioning the timing and motive behind the group’s allegations, noting that the same individuals had celebrated judicial decisions in the past when rulings were in their favour.

“It is surprising that this same set of individuals celebrated the judiciary when they won similar cases at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in the buildup to the 2023 general elections,” Dr. Ogundele stated.

“The questions they should be asked are: why is it that their sudden misplaced fact-finding capabilities did not reveal which parties the justices of the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court belonged to? Or is it a case of crying wolf and blackmailing people when they feel they cannot manipulate the system?”

The faction urged all litigants to honor the court’s authority and refrain from spreading false alarms that could tarnish the party’s reputation.

Highlighting the structure of the legal process, they reminded members that initial court decisions can be appealed, and there is no need for undue alarm.
