Families of the seven operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps killed by bandits in Kaduna State have been promised to receive automatic employment, according to Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General (CG) Command.
Audi made this known on Thursday in Kaduna, when he gave bank checks from Mining Development Company Limited to the relatives of deceased officers who had been ambushed and slain by terrorists in Birnin Gwari.
The CG, who was represented by Assistant Commandant General (ACG), Zone B, Muhammad Haruna, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reportedly withheld the cash that was provided to them.
On January 9, while performing their official duties, seven members of the NSCDC ambushed in the village of Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government District.
While sympathizing with the families of the deceased officers, Audi praised the mining company’s efforts to align itself with the corps following the officers’ murders.
“Since the killing of the seven officers, the mining company has been identifying with us, they have not abandoned us and it shows that you have the welfare of our officers at heart,’’ he said.
He asked the family to use the gift for the benefit of the late officers’ children.
The CG stated that the corps was also making every effort to ensure that its benefits were paid out promptly to next of kin.
Dr. Mohammed Usaini, the managing director of the mining firm, had earlier stated that the company felt it was important to show support for and give a token to the families of the deceased officials.
Idris Adah, the Commandant of the NSCDC Kaduna Command, added that although the CG was unhappy about the officers’ unexpected deaths, there was nothing anyone could do about it because death is inevitable.
“Death is a necessity journey; it will come when it has to come, that we will only pray to God for the repose of the loss souls,’’ he said.
The mining business was thanked by the commandant for keeping the late officers’ families in mind at a time when they were in desperate need.
He maintained that even if money could not bring back the departed, the recipients should use the money wisely for the benefit of the children who were left behind.
Alhaji Baba Ladan responded on behalf of the families of the deceased seven officers, thanking them for their support during their time of bereavement.
