A family in Ogun State has accused the police of releasing an allegedly intoxicated officer, Inspector Moses Momoh, 24 hours after he shot an innocent civilian, leaving him bedridden.
The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, in front of Matrix Petrol Station on Kara-Berger Road.
The victim, identified as Olaleye Abdullahi, was reportedly driving home when Inspector Momoh, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, fired his weapon twice, with the second shot hitting Abdullahi.
Inspector Momoh, attached to Warewa Police Station, was detained at Adigboluja Police Station in Ojodu, Berger area, but was released within 24 hours.
Abdullahi’s family claims that police authorities have abandoned him at a private hospital, failing to cover the nearly N4 million in medical bills incurred for his treatment.
The family is demanding that “all necessary legal measures be taken against Inspector Moses Momoh to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.”
They have expressed frustration over the lack of support and are considering taking matters into their own hands if justice is not served.
Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, for comments have been unsuccessful, as she did not answer her calls.
