The Aloba-Oluseye Descendants Family in Ogun State has reaffirmed that IAS Unique Homes and Properties validly acquired 20 acres of land in the Ikaa in Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, insisting that the property is free from encumbrances and longstanding disputes.
The clarification follows recent claims by another family contesting ownership of the land currently being developed by the firm.
Addressing journalists, the Head of the family’s Land Committee, Chief Abdul Lateef Olarewaju Shoyemi, said the land exclusively belongs to the Aloba-Oluseye lineage, stressing that its ownership had been conclusively settled by the courts decades ago.
He traced the dispute to a historic litigation instituted in 1953 by other Gbagura townships, which challenged Aloba- Oluseye’s claim to the expanse of land.
According to him, the matter progressed to the then Supreme Court of the Western Region, where judgment was delivered in 1955 in favour of the Aloba Oluseye family.
Shoyemi said, “The case went up to the Supreme Court of the Western Region under the Lordship of Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, and judgment was delivered in 1955 affirming Aloba Oluseye as the rightful owner of the land.”
He explained that the land stretches from Odo Ogun-Ayetoro Road across several locations, including parts of the old railway corridor, Odo Eran in Sabo, and areas historically leased to the Hausa community and Yango Barracks.
He added that the 20 acres in question form part of the larger expanse legitimately owned by the family and were duly sold to IAS Unique Homes and Properties.
Reaffirming the integrity of the transaction, Shoyemi noted that no competing claim had surfaced after the court ruling until recently, attributing the renewed contestation to ongoing development on the land.
“There has been a signboard on the land long before IAS acquired it. No one raised any issue. It was only after development commenced that some individuals began laying claims,” he said.
He further dismissed insinuations of any dispute with government authorities, explaining that portions of the land had been lawfully leased to public institutions, including the former Ẹgba Local Authority, now under Abeokuta North Local Government.
“There is no issue with the government. Some parts of the land have long been leased to government establishments,” he added.
The family maintained that IAS Unique Homes and Properties lawfully transacted with the recognised landowners and retains full rights over the 20 acres, including the authority to develop or transfer interest in the property.
Corroborating the position, the Head of the family, Prof. Opeoluwa Adekunle Akinfimojoye (OON), described as the Akin Fimojoye of Egbaland, endorsed the transaction and mandated Shoyemi to speak on behalf of the family.
Other prominent members of the lineage present at the briefing included Alhaji Sabitu Oluseye-Are; Chief Suleiman Fatoki, Odofin of Ikaland and Alapini of Gbagura; Mrs Shakirat Soares (née Oluseye); Chief Ibrahim Tijani Aloba, Areago of Ikaland and family secretary; Deacon Gbolahan Babatunde Oluseye; and Chief Monsuru Akanbi Oluseye, Osi of Ikaland.
The family stressed that the clarification became necessary to set the record straight, affirm the legitimacy of the sale to IAS Unique Homes and Properties, and dispel doubts arising from recent claims over the land.
