A 56-year-old man simply identified as Ọkpara has been apprehended for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old daughter in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the suspect is a native of Adazi-Enu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state
It was further gathered that a neighbour reported the case to the police after observing the little girl limping.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare in the state, Ify Obinabo disclosed this on Thursday.
Obinabo said the victim, during interrogation, confessed to have suffered defilement after the death of her mother three years ago.
According to Obinabo, the victim said her father usually had carnal knowledge of her every night with a threat to kill her if she disclosed the act to anyone.
The commissioner quoted the victim of saying, “My father started taking advantage of me after my mother’s death in 2020.
“He became overly protective of me by not allowing other family members, friends and relatives to come close.
“He usually has carnal knowledge of me every night and threatened to kill me if I ever tell anyone, and that is why I have not raised alarm.”
The suspect however denied the allegation,but tests conducted on the girl at the hospital proved she was defiled.
The father said,“Her limping has nothing to do with sexual abuse. My daughter started limping after falling from down from a refrigerator”.
The Commissioner while reacting, promised to get to the root of the matter to ensure justice was served.
Obinabo, who deployed her staff to the scene of the incident, said the suspect would soon be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court, Awka.
