The Baale of Kuto, Alhaji Chief Muftau Kehinde, has vehemently denied allegations that his son, Fatai Kehinde, was involved in cult activities, following his brutal murder in Kuto on August 9.
Kehinde, who expressed his deep grief and disbelief over the tragic incident, called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice.
Fatai was killed by suspected cultists on Friday in Kuto .
Speaking about the events leading up to his son’s death, the ages man recounted that he had left Fatai’s shop around 7 p.m. the previous evening.
Chief Kehinde , Jaguna Ijemo said the next day, as he was preparing for the Ijemo Day celebration, he received a visit from community members who informed him of the tragedy.
“I was so shocked; it was like a dream to me,” he said, describing the moment he learned of his son’s death.
According to witnesses, Fatai, a 45-year-old businessman, was attacked by a group of masked men who arrived in a black Lexus car around 11 p.m. on the night of the incident.
He said “the assailants demanded money from him, and when he attempted to flee, they chased him down. Despite his desperate pleas, Fatai was brutally murdered in front of his wife and children.”
He dismissed rumours that his son was a member of a cult, challenging anyone with evidence to come forward.
“They have never brought a case involving my son fighting someone since he came to this world; it has never happened,” he said.
The Baale of Kuto also revealed that Fatai had no history of violence or trouble with the law, noting that the only time he was ever at a police station was due to a misunderstanding overloading passengers at a bus stop.
Chief Kehinde called on the police to investigate the allegations of his son’s involvement in cult activities and to bring those responsible for his murder to justice.
“I have handed them over to the police already. We depend on the police. I will like to plead with the police that they should reveal the evil doers or they should investigate if Fatai is a member of the cult group,” he said.
