Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for allegedly attempting to bribe police investigators with N1.5 million in a bid to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, the command said the arrest was made by officers of the Scorpion Squad, who are currently investigating a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating within the FCT and neighbouring states.

According to the statement, Saleh approached the officers with the intent of inducing them with cash to compromise the ongoing investigation and unlawfully secure the release of one of the suspects in custody.

“Yahaya Saleh approached the investigators and offered the bribe as an inducement to compromise the case and unlawfully release one of the arrested suspects,” the statement read.

Demonstrating what the command described as “professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice,” the officers rejected the offer and promptly initiated legal procedures that led to Saleh’s arrest.

The statement added that further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ajao Adewale, lauded their uprightness and reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and its commitment to the rule of law.

He urged the public to continue supporting the police with credible information to ensure the safety and security of lives and property in the FCT.
