The FCT Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has reported a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, resulting in the arrests of 343 drug dealers between January and now.

It also revealed that it recorded seizures of illicit drugs with an estimated value of over N56.9 million.

The FCT Commandant of NDLEA, Kabir Tsakuwa, revealed this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

He stated that the apprehended suspects, comprising 328 males and 15 females, were involved in various aspects of drug trafficking and distribution.

According to him, the seized illicit drugs encompassed a variety of substances, including suspected cannabis sativa, cocaine, Methamphetamine, Heroin, Tramadol, Rohypnol, Diazepam, Ecstasy, and Megadon.

Tsakuwa said, “Drugs seized were cannabis sativa 3,022.529 kilogrammes, cocaine 0.114 kilogramnes, Methamphetamine 1.25 kilogrammes, Heroin 0.0021 kilogrammes.

“We also seized suspected Tramadol 18.578 kilogrammes, Rohypnol 1.195 kilogrammes, Diazepam 4.471 kilogrammes, Ecstasy 0.113 kilogrammes and Megadon 0.263 kilogrammes.

“The monetary value of these drugs stands approximately N56, 903, 600 only.”

He further revealed that, during the same period, 188 drug offenders were prosecuted, leading to 126 convictions with varying jail sentences.

He added that these actions aimed to deter drug-related crimes and protect the community.

The total estimated value of the seized drugs was approximately N56,903,600, Tsakuwa said, adding that the value reflects the agency’s commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade and safeguarding public welfare.

According to him, to address the broader issue of drug abuse, NDLEA, in coordination with other security agencies, is gearing up for a joint operation within the FCT.

He therefore said that the focus of this operation was to be able to dismantle potential drug abuse hotspots and shanties where criminal activities might be thriving.
