The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development.

The decision was made during a council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, announced the development in an official statement following the FEC meeting.

According to him, the National Sports Commission (NSC) will now assume the responsibilities previously managed by the Ministry of Sports Development.

He added that the Ministry of Niger Delta will no longer exist as a standalone entity.
Onanuga said in its place, a newly created Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all regional development commissions.

He said this includes the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the North West Development Commission (NWDC), the South West Development Commission (SWDC), and the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

In a related development, the FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

This merger is expected to enhance the synergy between the country’s cultural heritage and its tourism potential, boosting economic growth in both sectors.

“The decisions taken today reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring more efficient governance structures in line with his administration’s goals,” Onanuga said in the statement.

Meanwhile, before the FEC meeting commenced, President Tinubu swore in Abdullahi Bello as the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Bello is expected to steer the bureau towards upholding ethical standards and curbing corruption in public service.

In his remarks after the ceremony, Bello expressed confidence in Nigeria’s institutional frameworks, stating that the country possesses the necessary tools to combat corruption.

He affirmed his dedication to the bureau’s mandate of promoting integrity and transparency in governance.
