…Says over 260 others ongoing
The Federal Government says it has successfully completed 135 road projects across the northern region as part of its nationwide infrastructure development programme.
Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, made this known during a two-day interactive session hosted by the Ahmadu Bello Foundation on Wednesday.
Alkali, represented by the Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Suleiman Haruna, disclosed that 266 additional road construction projects are currently ongoing in the North, while 312 road maintenance works have also been completed.
The minister added that the government’s commitment to critical infrastructure goes beyond roads.
According to him, several legacy projects — including the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, Calabar–Abuja Superhighway, and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road — are also underway.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 14 road projects have been completed and inaugurated under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Alkali said.
Other completed projects highlighted by the minister include the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, rehabilitation and construction of multiple primary and secondary schools across states, and the commissioning of three world-class bus terminals.
He reaffirmed that the infrastructure drive was a key component of the current administration’s strategy to boost economic growth, ease transportation challenges, and improve the quality of life for citizens.
The government’s intensified focus on infrastructure comes amid growing calls for improved public services and better road networks, especially in rural and underserved areas.
