The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 18 and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate the Easter celebration, marking Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on Tuesday on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulating Christians across the country as they prepare to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Nigerians, particularly the Christian faithful, to reflect on the values of sacrifice, love, and selflessness demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

“Easter is a time for deep spiritual reflection and renewed commitment to the values that bind us as a people,” Tunji-Ojo stated. “We must emulate the virtues of humility, forgiveness, and tolerance that Easter represents.”

The minister also called on Nigerians to use the holiday season as a period of prayer for the country, noting the importance of unity and peace in ensuring national development.

While reiterating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda, the minister assured citizens of the government’s continuous efforts towards economic revitalization, national cohesion, and infrastructural advancement.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria for all. It is our collective responsibility to support this vision by fostering unity and goodwill,” he said.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also appealed to citizens to show love to their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity, especially in this season of reflection and renewal.

He concluded by wishing all Christians a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration and extended warm holiday greetings to all Nigerians.

Easter, one of the most significant celebrations in Christianity, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, symbolizing hope, renewal, and victory over sin and death.
