After hours of negotiations, the Federal Government and Organized Labour have reached a significant agreement regarding the minimum wage, promising positive outcomes for Nigerian workers.
The national tripartite committee on minimum wage convened on Monday, where Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced that the committee would meet daily for the next week.
The marathon meeting, which commenced at 5:00 pm, concluded close to 11:00 pm, indicating the intensity and dedication of both parties towards finding a resolution.
Following the discussions, an agreement was signed between the government and Organized Labour, marking a crucial milestone in the ongoing dialogue.
While specific details of the agreement have not been made public, Akume assured that the administration of President Bola Tinubu was fully committed to ensuring that Nigerian workers receive more than the current N60,000 minimum wage.
Additionally, he emphasized that no worker would face victimization due to participating in any industrial action.
In a gesture of respect towards the President, Organized Labour pledged to swiftly convene a meeting of its organs to evaluate the commitment made by the government.
This demonstrates a cooperative spirit aimed at swiftly implementing the agreed-upon measures for the benefit of workers across the nation.
The agreement signals a positive step forward in addressing the concerns of Nigerian workers and ensuring fair compensation for their contributions to the nation’s economy.
