The Federal Government has announced the reopening of all 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country, assuring parents and guardians that adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of students and staff.
The reopening followed the strengthening of security architecture within and around the affected schools after earlier disruptions linked to insecurity in parts of the country.
The Ministry of Education disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
According to the ministry, academic activities have fully resumed in all the Unity Colleges, with students returning safely to their campuses to continue their studies.
“Students have returned safely to their campuses, with many currently concluding their December academic programmes, while others have successfully completed their examinations,” the statement read.
The government reaffirmed that the safety, welfare and well-being of students remain a top priority, noting that it is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure sustained stability in school environments nationwide.
“The Federal Government remains resolute in its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and to uphold their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment,” the ministry stated.
It added that education remains a critical pillar of the administration’s human capital development agenda, stressing that deliberate efforts are being made to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar despite prevailing security challenges.
The ministry noted that the successful return of students and the conduct of examinations in several Unity Colleges underscore the government’s commitment to keeping learning on track across the country.
While appreciating parents, school administrators and students for their patience and cooperation, the Federal Government reiterated its resolve to sustain a secure, stable and uninterrupted education system in all federal schools.
The Unity Colleges, also known as Federal Government Colleges, were established to promote national integration and provide quality secondary education to students from different parts of the country.
