The Federal Government has cautioned Nigerians to beware of fraudsters falsely claiming access to a 753-unit housing estate recently transferred to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The estate, linked to embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, is not yet up for sale, the ministry clarified.
In a statement on Friday, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Badamasi Haiba, said scammers have been soliciting N500,000 from unsuspecting citizens for fake expression of interest forms, purporting to have insider access to ministry allocations.
“The public is hereby informed that the ministry has just taken over the estate from the EFCC as directed by Mr. President.
The houses will be completed by the ministry and all necessary infrastructure provided before any offer for sale or government use,” Haiba said.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has inaugurated a technical committee to assess the estate’s condition.
Their mandate includes conducting structural integrity tests, evaluating infrastructure requirements, and designing a transparent disposal strategy.
This move is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises affordable housing, accountability, and public trust.
Haiba emphasized that no form of payment should be made to anyone under the guise of securing a slot or purchase opportunity.
“The ministry will issue a clear announcement and outline the official sales strategy once preparations are concluded,” he said.
Nigerians were urged to remain vigilant and confirm any information directly through the ministry’s Departments of Public Building, Housing Development, or its Press Office.
The ministry reiterated its commitment to transparency and warned that legal action will be taken against anyone found exploiting the situation for fraudulent gain.
