The Ogun State chapter of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) has expressed confidence in the newly deployed Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Olubode Ojajuni, describing his appointment as a boost to security and policing standards in the Gateway State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the association said it received Ojajuni’s assumption of duty with “great optimism,” noting that his track record as a seasoned law enforcement officer and strategic administrator positions him for a result-oriented tenure.
Ojajuni, who is the 38th Commissioner of Police to head the Ogun State Command, was described by FIBAN as a professional with vast local and international exposure, capable of strengthening the state’s security architecture.
The association highlighted his career trajectory since joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, noting his experience across operational and administrative roles, including his tenure as Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command and his service in the Police Mobile Force and anti-fraud operations at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.
FIBAN also recalled his time as Area Commander of Area A, Lion Building, Lagos Island, where he was honoured with the “Area Commander of the Year” award in 2021 for his innovative approach to urban policing.
On the international front, the association referenced his election into the INTERPOL Africa Committee at the 27th African Regional Conference held in Cape Town in 2025, as well as his recent role at the INTERPOL Nigeria National Central Bureau, which it said equipped him with modern policing strategies to address emerging threats such as cybercrime and transnational crime.
The group also noted that Ojajuni is not new to Ogun State, having previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a role it said gives him an understanding of the state’s security landscape.
FIBAN expressed optimism that his leadership would deepen community policing, improve intelligence-driven operations, and enhance collaboration between the police and residents.
“As critical stakeholders in information dissemination, we are confident in his ability to foster a robust partnership with the media and uphold an open-door policy that will promote transparency and public trust,” the statement read.
The association pledged its support for the new police boss, promising to work with the command to promote peace, security awareness, and responsible broadcasting across the state.
While congratulating Ojajuni on his appointment, FIBAN urged him to sustain his legacy of excellence, prioritise human rights, and adopt intelligence-led policing in tackling insecurity.
“Once again, we welcome you to Ogun State and wish you a successful and impactful tenure,” the statement added.
