A fire outbreak on Wednesday engulfed an off-campus apartment housing students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), destroying several personal belongings and leaving occupants stranded.

The incident occurred at the Amazing Glory Villa, located behind Ace Bar in the Ijagun area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The blaze, suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, quickly spread through multiple rooms before firefighters arrived.

Eyewitnesses said the fire broke out in the afternoon, catching many students unprepared.

In a viral video obtained by PLATFORM TIMES, thick smoke and flames could be seen billowing from the affected building as students scrambled to salvage their belongings.

The Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Oluwashinayomi Ogunfowora, who visited the scene, described the incident as “heartbreaking” and expressed solidarity with the victims.

“This is a sad day for the TASUED community. Many students lost everything—books, clothes, electronics, and other essentials.

“We responded immediately upon receiving the distress call and also ensured that fire service officials were alerted,” Ogunfowora said in a statement.

While no lives were lost, the extent of property damage was significant. As of press time, the actual cause of the fire was yet to be confirmed.

The student union urged residents in hostels and lodges around the university to always unplug electrical appliances when not in use and prioritize safety.

“The union will continue to advocate for safer accommodation for students and will reach out to appropriate authorities and stakeholders for support,” the union PRO added.

The affected students have called for help from the university management, government, and kind-hearted Nigerians to assist them in recovering from their losses.
