The swift response of the Kwara State Fire Service averted a major disaster on Otte-Ilorin expressway on Thursday.

A bus loaded with cosmetics collided with an overturned truck ladened with perfume and honey leading to a fire outbreak.

Spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in a statement disclosed that the incident occurred at 08:12 hours.

“The Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a fire outbreak following a truck rollover at Otte, Ogbomosho Bode Saadu Expressway, Kwara State. The incident involved a bus carrying cosmetic products and a truck loaded with perfumes and honey.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the courageous firefighters from the state fire service quickly engaged in extinguishing the blaze. Thanks to the firemen’s swift and coordinated efforts, the fire was successfully brought under control.

“Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated that the truck had tipped onto its side on Monday. Subsequently, a bus collided with the overturned truck, which led to the fire outbreak,” the statement added.

The director of the state fire service urged all road users to drive safely to prevent such incidents in the future.
