In a bid to bolster education and agricultural sectors across Nigeria, the country’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has initiated plans to intervene in 36 universities and support 3,600 farmers nationwide through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

During a recent quarterly meeting with Renewed Hope Initiative Zonal and State Coordinators, comprising wives of state governors, Mrs. Tinubu outlined the intervention strategy.

She tasked the governors’ wives to nominate one tertiary institution and 100 farmers from each state for these projects, emphasizing the importance of education in empowering women and enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Mrs. Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, confirmed the initiative, highlighting the collaboration between the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and the Renewed Hope Initiative to facilitate infrastructural and human capital development in tertiary institutions.

The First Lady announced a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to support 100 farmers in every state.
These farmers, comprising 75 women and 25 men, will receive assistance to enhance agricultural productivity and encourage youth involvement in farming.

Governors’ wives were also urged to promote youth engagement in initiatives such as the ongoing Unity Fabric competition, offering a prize money of N25 million, and the Every Home a Garden competition aimed at encouraging first-time women farmers to cultivate home gardens for food sustainability.

Moreover, Mrs. Tinubu revealed plans to extend the Women in Agriculture Support Programme, which commenced in Imo State, to other regions, with Ogun State set to host the next phase on April 16.
