No fewer than five people including three operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and two other civilians have been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen in Imo State.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the gunmen invaded the Ekelsu Market in the Ngor Okpalla Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Monday.
According to residents in the community established, the assailants ambushed the NSCDC officers in their vehicle, killing two more passersby in the process.
Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Spokesperson, Henry Okoye, told newsmen that the incident had attracted prompt deployment of security forces to the area in a bid to trail the suspects.
Okoye however stated that the police couldn’t confirm the number of bodies that belonged to the NSCDC and that of the civilians.
In his words, “Yes, it is true, it happened midnight yesterday (early Monday morning) at Ngor Okpalla LGA, but only the NSCDC can confirm how many of their members were killed, however, people were killed and the security in the area has been beefed up. We are on the trail of the hoodlums,” he said.
